Wrist Warmers for winter travels in your own backyard.
Travel blog posts are difficult to conjure up during these difficult days of Corona Virus and having our wings clipped for international travel.
But…for those of you planning to explore the depths of our Land of Oz this winter, these wrist-warmers could be just what the doctor ordered.
Especially so if heading inland where the weather gods seem to enjoy seeing our fingers and hands turn blue during single digit temperatures in the early mornings and late evenings.
Fear not, these Wrist Warmers are SO simple to make – you will find yourself in hot demand by your family, neighbours and friends.
Let ‘s do this…..here’s what you need:
- Knitting needles: Size 4.5mm
- Wool: 1 x 100 gram ball of 8 ply
- Or: 2 x 50 grams of 8 ply
To fit wrist sizes:
- XS = 13 – 14 cms
- S = 16 – 17 cms
- M = 18 – 19 cms (this is the size in the photo)
- L = 21 – 22 cms
Make 2
Here we go –
- Cast on 26 (32, 36, 42, 46) stitches
- Work in rib (kl p1) for approximately 2.5 cms. Change to stocking stitch (1 row knit and 1 row purl) until you reach 18 cms from the beginning, then work the final 2.5 cms in ribbing. (Or, you can cast off without doing ribbing when you have the length needed).
- Cast off loosely – cut the wool leaving approximately 25 cms to sew up the side seams.
AND…
Wrist Warmers can morph into Leg Warmers by adding another few stitches when you first cast on and knitting a few more cms before you cast off.
You’ll find many creative wrist warmers patterns around with holes for your thumbs to poke through and such, but these are SIMPLE and quick to make.
Happy Knitting and enjoy travelling in our own Aussie Backyard!
